What is Url Shortening?
Have you ever received a an email with a great link. Only to discover
that it didn't work. After spending time trying to figure out what the
problem is you find that your email client has cut off the url and
spanned it across several lines. Forcing you to paste it back together
again. BigLNK.com prevents this from happening by converting long urls
in to short ones.
Example
Say you have visited the following url:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=www.mariquita.com/im
ages/photogallery/strawberry.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.mariq
uita.com/images/photogallery/s.html&h=478&w=639&sz=55&tbnid
=98T2y7KA9noJ:&tbnh=100&tbnw=133&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dstraw
berry%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26c2coff%3D1
Now, by using BigLNK, you can shorten it to something like this:
http://biglnk.com/0
This url is short enough that it won't break in emails and is much
easier to remember, right?
Possible uses
These a are just a few ideas as to where using BigLNK can make your
internet life just a little bit easier.
- Emails
- Bulletin Boards
- Instant Messages (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo! and MSN Messenger etc.)
- Blogs (Weblogs, for those who don't know -- visit www.blogger.com)
- Other...
Path Forwarding
Path forwarding makes your BigLNK work on any page of your site.
Say, your url is:
http://www.some-free-host.com/~your_username/
and you created a BigLNK from this, which turned out like this:
http://biglnk.com/D
Now, with path forwarding, if you want to access, say:
http://www.some-free-host.com/~your_username/friends_and_family.html
All you'd have to do to access that exact page through your BigLNK
is:
http://biglnk.com/D/friends_and_family.html
Bookmarklet
So you like using BigLNK, but don't like having to go to the website
and type in the long url every time you want to create a short url. No
problem. BigLNK provides this handy little tool, called a bookmarklet.
The bookmarklet lets you instantly create short urls directly from the
site you are visiting.
Installing the bookmarklet is really simple. All you
have to do is this:
Drag and drop this link on your browser's links
toolbar or right click the link and select Add to favorites.
